Miller Transfer Invests in 14-Inch Lowboy Trailers

Miller Transfer recently added five 14-inch lowboy mini-deck trailers to its national fleet. Ideal for transporting heavy, oversized and irregularly shaped equipment like industrial machinery, transformers, power control buildings, air handling units and furnaces, the new 53-foot 30-ton lowboys have a lower and longer deck compared to standard lowboys in the market.

These highly versatile lowboys can legally haul extra-tall loads – more than 12-feet high – as a result of their low 14-inch decks. What’s more, each trailer features a hydraulic neck and adjustable ride height that allows operators to raise or lower the deck as needed. Significantly reducing shipping costs for customers, the new equipment may help:

• Avoid overhead obstructions (wires, underpasses, tree branches, traffic signals, etc.)
• Reduce out-of-route miles
• Eliminate high-pole escorts, police and route surveys
• Prevent cargo claims
• Accommodate height limitations at loading or unloading

Moreover, the extra-long 53-foot trailers or 33’8”decks are 5 feet longer than Miller Transfer’s current 48-foot lowboy mini decks. This length can be the difference between one or two loads for its customers. With the addition of the new trailers, Miller Transfer now has 20 mini-deck trailers with deck lengths between 28’8” and 33’8”.

“Our company is continually investing in the state-of-the-art equipment that our customers require,” says Miller Transfer Vice President of Sales and Marketing David Cochran. “In fact, we had loads ready for these new lowboy mini-deck trailers as soon as they were put into service.”
